it would not do for him to draw cheques seeing what the balance

was in bank. I said it would be better for him to let me have

the cheque book entirely. From that time I signed all the

cheques. After I took charge of the cheque book Mr. Tatam

continued to draw money from the butchery. On 11th. December,

1895, Mr. Tatam drew $150 from the Butchery for personal expens-

-es. While living with me he paid nothing for board and lodging,

This went on for 6 weeka to 2 months from 15th. September,

1895, to the end of October, 1895, after that date he drew

money from the Butchery for current expenses. At that time I

rented the top of a house and the Butchery was on the 1st.

floor. Mr. Tatam drew out money as he liked. The matter was

treated as in the case of an ordinary partnership. Mr. Tatam

drew money for current expenses and at the end of the year a

settlement would have been made had the business shown a profit.

I advanced money without interest and Mr. Tatam was to give his

services, and we were to divide the profits. I borrowed on

22nd. October, 1895, the sum of $1,000 which I put into the

Butchery.

(sd.) F. A. Hazeland,

Attorney-General.
